This Halloween, instead of singing about witches and werewolves, the NMGMC will explore the beauty and dark elegance of a Mexican holiday celebrated by many people around the world: Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
“Dia de los Muertos recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience, a continuum with birth, childhood, and growing up to become a contributing member of the community. On Dia de los Muertos, the dead are also a part of the community, awakened from their eternal sleep to share celebrations with their loved ones.” - National Geographic Society
Although death can be a disturbing subject to some, the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) holiday treats death as a part of life, inviting those who have passed to walk among us again, bringing life and death together in sweet harmony. The NMGMC will present music that evokes images of animated bones and restless spirits, while exploring and accepting our own mortality.
Come and enjoy the incredible sound of the NMGMC, the The NM QTones (outreach ensemble of the NMGMC), and soloists of the chorus on Halloween weekend, October 29-30 at Las Puertas. The dead walk among us!
