Christopher AllemangChorus President, Ex-officio Member
Christopher R. Allemang moved to Albuquerque in April of 2021 with his partner and dog. He joined the NMGMC as a singing member for the chorus's 43rd season. In his time with the chorus, he has found both a passion for vocal performance and a community committed to changing the world through music and fostering understand across diverse communities.
Chris holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan and now works as a microelectronics researcher, serving in project and thrust lead roles that have honed his skills in team coordination, strategic planning, and collaborative problem-solving. His experience leading diverse teams in complex technical environments has informed his approach to community building and inclusive leadership. During his time at the University of Michigan, Chris was an active member of the College of Engineering community, serving on the college's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Advisory Board. His goals in participating in university activities were to promote student camaraderie and to create a more inclusive place for all students to live, learn, and grow. Since moving to Albuquerque, he occasionally volunteers with Musical Theatre Southwest, maintaining connections across Albuquerque's broader arts community. Outside of his professional and musical pursuits, Chris enjoys hiking, photography, and traveling, as well as spending quality time with his nieces and nephews—activities that keep him connected to both the natural beauty of New Mexico and the importance of family relationships. As Chris begins his presidential term in his third season with the chorus, he brings a vision inspired by the message from Kinky Boots: to "celebrate you, to elevate you" for every chorus member. He envisions expanding the chorus's engagement beyond performance, encouraging members to volunteer and show up for the broader Albuquerque, LGBTQ+, and artistic communities, while ensuring the chorus remains a welcoming space where all members—existing and new—can find community and belonging. |
